Some nu metal bands use seven-string guitars that are generally down-tuned, rather than traditional six-string guitars. While loud and heavily distorted electric guitars are a core feature of all metal genres, nu metal guitarists took the sounds of "violence and destruction" to new levels with their overdriven guitar tone, which music journalists Kitts and Tolinski compared to the ".sound a Mack truck being crushed by a collapsing skyscraper." Nu metal's similarities with many heavy metal subgenres include its use of common time, distorted guitars, power chords and note structures primarily revolving around Dorian, Aeolian or Phrygian modes. Blast beats, which are common in heavy metal subgenres such as black metal and death metal, are extremely rare in nu metal. Nu metal bassists and drummers are often influenced by funk and hip hop, respectively, adding to nu metal's rhythmic nature. Nu metal guitar riffs occasionally are similar to those of death metal. The wah pedal is occasionally featured in nu metal music. Another contrast with other heavy metal genres is nu metal's emphasis on rhythm, rather than on complexity or mood, often its rhythm sounds like that of groove metal. Kory Grow of Revolver wrote, ". n its efforts to tune down and simplify riffs, nu-metal effectively drove a stake through the heart of the guitar solo". Mid-song bridges and a general lack of guitar solos contrasts it with other genres of heavy metal. Nu metal is heavily syncopated and is based mostly on guitar riffs. Korn bassist Fieldy ( pictured) cites bassists such as Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Les Claypool of Primus as influences. In contrast with other heavy metal subgenres, nu metal tends to use the same structure of verses, choruses and bridges as those in pop music. Some nu metal bands, such as Static-X and Dope, made nu metal music with elements of industrial metal. Nu metal bands also are influenced by and use elements of genres of heavy metal music such as death metal, rap metal, groove metal, funk metal, and thrash metal. Nu metal bands have been influenced by and have used elements of a variety of musical genres, including electronic music, funk, gothic rock, hardcore punk, punk rock, dance music, new wave, jazz, post-punk, symphonic rock and synth-pop. Nu metal merges elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, and alternative rock. MTV states that the early nu metal group Korn "arrived in 1993 into the burgeoning alternative metal scene, which would morph into nü-metal the way college rock became alternative rock." Stereogum has similarly claimed that nu metal was a "weird outgrowth of the Lollapalooza-era alt-metal scene". Nu metal is also known as nü-metal and aggro-metal. Problems playing these files? See media help. Artists like Grimes, Poppy and Rina Sawayama integrated nu metal sounds into electronic pop music in the late 2010s and early 2020s. Bands like Of Mice & Men, Emmure, Issues and My Ticket Home combined nu metal with metalcore or deathcore. However, by the mid-2000s, the oversaturation of bands combined with the underperformance of several high-profile releases led to nu metal's decline, leading to the rise of metalcore and many nu metal bands disbanding or abandoning their established sound in favor of other genres.ĭuring the 2010s, there was a nu metal revival many bands that combine nu metal with other genres (for example, metalcore and deathcore) emerged, and some nu metal bands from the 1990s and early 2000s returned to the nu metal sound. all selling multi-platinum albums, and came to a peak with Linkin Park's diamond-selling album Hybrid Theory, which became the best-selling rock album of the 21st century. Nu metal's popularity continued during the early 2000s, with bands such as Papa Roach, Staind, and P.O.D. Nu metal became popular in the late 1990s with bands and artists such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and Kid Rock all releasing albums that sold millions of copies. Nu metal is one of the key genres of the new wave of American heavy metal. Vocal styles in nu metal include singing, rapping, screaming and growling. DJs are occasionally featured in nu metal to provide instrumentation such as sampling, turntable scratching and electronic backgrounds. Many nu metal guitarists use seven-string guitars that are down-tuned to produce a heavier sound. Nu metal rarely features guitar solos or other displays of musical technique the genre is heavily syncopated and based on guitar riffs. Nu metal bands have drawn elements and influences from a variety of musical styles, including multiple genres of heavy metal. Nu metal (sometimes stylized as nü-metal, sometimes called aggro-metal) is a subgenre of alternative metal that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge.

So you’d need to buy a USB drive caddy or similar accessory. You can’t configure a Mac mini with mass built-in storage. The other disadvantage of a Mac mini is the storage factor. With the Mac mini approach, you’d be starting from scratch - and probably find you need to plug in display/keyboard/mouse every time there’s a problem to debug. The Synology OS is also designed to run all the NAS duties you need from scheduled tasks, long-running processes, automatic software updates and the like. Synology is ready out-of-the-box, with everything configurable through a web browser accessible on any device in the network. For one, macOS is not primarily designed to be a server: the software stack is not designed to be running headless, with no display connected. But there are a couple factors that make it inconvenient. And it’s true that Mac minis can do everything a Synology or other NAS can. So if a NAS is simple a small computer, why not buy a computer? The natural home server solution for an Apple-centric household may seem to be a Mac mini, intuitively. Of course, some home wiring arrangements simply aren’t set up to support that placement consider a 2-bay NAS tucked inside a media center cabinet is a reasonable solution to mitigate the noise problem. Basement and garage are other good candidates. I am fortunate in that I have power and Ethernet running to the loft, so I can leave the NAS up there - out of sight and out of mind. A 4-bay NAS will undoubtedly run louder than a 2-bay unit, as you have the fans of the NAS itself plus the sounds of the spinning disks. If you are just getting started, a cheaper 2-bay Synology is a perfectly good option for most people. Please note though, I used a 2-bay NAS very happily for many years. The other two drive bays are filled with two more 8TB drives, but exposed as one logical volume, giving me 16 TB of space to fill with stuff. This latter set up is actually a description of what I use, I have personal files stored onto one 8 TB volume, which is then automatically duplicated on another 8 TB hard drive situated in the second drive bay, in case the first one ever fails. With a 4-bay NAS, you naturally have the ability to double effective usable space, but also more flexibility when it comes to redundancy policy: for instance, you could use only one bay for redundancy, and dedicate two of the four bays to data that you don’t need a second backup of - like re-downloadable, replaceable media. If you plan on using one of the bays as a secondary backup, using the automatic ‘RAID’ functionality of a Synology NAS, that means you have ~10 TB of usable storage on a 2-bay NAS, with the second bay keep a 1:1 backup for redundancy. I personally buy 8 or 10 TB NAS drives, as they strike a decent tradeoff between capacity and price. But due to their cost, you will probably want to opt for cheaper, smaller capacity, drives. The maximum available size for a single NAS drive is about 16 TB, at the moment. For a home consumer purpose, I think the main deciding factor is how much storage you will need.Įffectively, this means picking between a model with 2- or 4- drive bays. I like Synology because I find their web UI simple and they have a large package ecosystem that makes many tasks literally one-click installs more on that later. This means ideally, you store the NAS in your home somewhere out of the way, out of sight, and let it do its job all day long without intervention. When you plug it in, you configure and control it through a web interface that apes a desktop UI. On the back, you have some Ethernet and expansion ports. So, the Synology DS920+ that I have is a compact black box that packs in a low-powered CPU, some RAM, and four drive bays for hard drives to slot into. These days, a consumer NAS is quite simply a small PC-like box that integrates drive bays directly into it. NAS stands for network-attached-storage, dating back to the days when a server mainframe would take up a whole room. Part of the apprehension I see when people mention this stuff is that the acronym itself, NAS, immediately makes the technology sound a lot more complicated than it really is. Hopefully, in this post, I can highlight how a NAS can dramatically enhance your Apple experience, and that the whole venture is a relatively straightforward thing to integrate in your life, and get ongoing value … What is a NAS? Upgrading from a 2-bay to a 4-bay model has unlocked even more use cases for me, but I still get the impression that to most people, a NAS is a scary and uninviting concept. At the end of the last year upgraded to a 4-bay DS920+. I’ve been a long time user of Synology NAS products, having first reviewed them on 9to5Mac in 2016. Taffyta is later seen at the Random Roster Race and is in second place, behind King Candy and ahead of Candlehead and Rancis Fluggerbutter. Ralph comes and sees this and, even though Vanellope had stolen his medal but was unable to stand Taffyta bullying her, he chases Taffyta and the other racers away. In an attempt to make her stop, Vanellope pulls Taffyta away from the kart, but this angers her to the point she jabs her and pushes her into a mud puddle. The other racers join Taffyta in destroying the kart as well. Vanellope refuses, and Taffyta begins to destroy her kart. Taffyta and the other racers arrive at the junkyard and command Vanellope to drop out, as King Candy told her glitches are unable to race. Vanellope heads to the junkyard, where she puts the finishing touches on her makeshift, peddle-powered kart. When Taffyta notices this, she puts it into her own hands to prevent the glitch from racing. King Candy orders his security team, Wynnchel and Duncan, to capture her, but Ralph's accidental interference allows Vanellope to escape. Suddenly, Vanellope, in disguise, uses a gold medal from a game-jumping video game villain named Wreck-It Ralph to get herself into the race. Being the second most successful racer in the game, Taffyta deposits her coin after King Candy. The first racers across the finish line in the race will represent Sugar Rush as the following day's avatars. Taffyta arriving at the opening ceremony for the Random Roster Race.Īfter a grand day of racing, the arcade closes and the racers of Sugar Rush prepare to pay their fee (one gold coin) to race in the daily Random Roster Race. She tops her outfit off with white racing gloves. Underneath her hot pink racing jacket, she wears a lighter frosted pink dress and white-and-pink-striped leggings with matching sneakers. She wears a frosted magenta strawberry-themed cap (resembling that of Strawberry Shortcake's, who is possibly the inspiration for her design) or helmet on her head that doubles as a visor when she's racing. Taffyta's ensemble is almost entirely comprised of shades of pink. She is almost always seen sucking on a strawberry lollipop. She has dark thick upper and lower lashes that are varnished in mascara. Her deep periwinkle eyes are large and animesque. She has a small rosy jellybean-like nose. She has tan skin, rosy cheeks, glossy pink lips, and short platinum lightly blonde hair in a bob-cut with low front bangs covering her dark brown eyebrows. Taffyta is a small girl with Chibi-like proportions: she has a large head with a small body. She appears envious of Vanellope's position as the most popular racer, yet she does not let her jealously get the best of her and instead treats Vanellope like an equal than she was unable to do before. In the tie-in book, One Sweet Race, which takes place after the movie, Taffyta still apparently enjoys teasing others, which hints that she is just programmed to be arrogant.īy the time of Ralph Breaks the Internet six years later, Taffyta is openly mocking and hostile towards Vanellope as a result of their competitive roles, but is now unable to act against her, thus being more of a competitive rival than a bully to Vanellope, like she used to be. Taffyta is also very dramatic in her emotions, especially in fear, sadness, or anger she is prone to wailing and bursting into tears whenever she is upset. She shows that despite her attitude, she is mature enough to admit her mistakes. Being unquestionably loyal to King Candy, Taffyta takes it upon herself to stop Vanellope from racing, and even influences the other racers to join her endeavors, bullying Vanellope in a truly cruel and abusive manner as she was manipulated by him.Īt the end of the movie, when Vanellope is revealed to be the rightful ruler of Sugar Rush, Taffyta is truly remorseful and immediately apologizes for her actions. Taffyta's most frequent target for bullying is Vanellope, whom she believes is a glitch capable of getting this game unplugged. She tends to be bossy and somewhat crass to her competitors, likely because she does not see them as her equals. Taffyta is also quite charismatic and can put on quite a charming front she is evidently popular and the leader of the group of Sugar Rush racers, with Candlehead and Rancis Fluggerbutter being her closest friends. Due to her accomplishments, her ego and confidence have inflated and made her arrogant and cocky. Taffyta Muttonfudge is a skilled racer from the game Sugar Rush, where she is known to be second only to King Candy, whom she admires and respects. Though King Candy is Sugar Rush 's reigning racing champion, Taffyta always manages to give him a run for his money with her wicked driving skills. She is a fierce competitor who keeps her eyes on the prize and isn't afraid to derail anyone who gets in her way. The lollipop-lickin' is a top-notch racer in the game Sugar Rush. Taffyta Muttonfudge: The Hard Hitting Strawberry If you are interested in being a part of this community or want advice from this large group of users, then know that they use Repetier Host. This is a large community of 3D printer users. Repetier Host is the preferred software of the RepRap community. For companies that use 3D printers to create specific parts and equipment, this can be a huge time and money saver. This benefit can be incredibly useful when printing multiple smaller pieces that will piece together to make a bigger project. If you can fit it on the virtual bed, then Repetier Host will allow you to print multiple parts at once. Perhaps one of the most convenient and unique features of Repetier Host is the fact that you can print multiple items at once. Because of this, Repetier Host can function with almost any 3D printer. It can also show these colors in the preview, allowing you to see a complete visual of your project before printing.Īs we have already mentioned, Repetier Host comes with 4 slicers, and you can add many other slicers as well. This makes it possible to print projects with multiple colors and multiple filaments at the same time. Repetier Host can control a staggering 16 extruders at once. Many of the benefits Repetier Host offers are thus geared towards assisting with big complex printing projects. Repetier Host is designed to handle professional 3D printing jobs. The Repetier Informer App will keep you updated no matter where you are. If you are 3D printing for professional purposes, then the ability to stay informed throughout the process is crucial. Luckily Repetier has the Repetier-Informer App to give you updates on your printing while you are away. As much as we may want to stay and watch our object develop layer by layer, we probably do not have time. Using high contrast images, Repetier Host tells the extruder to print bright areas slow and dark areas fast, which changes the thickness of the extrusion and creates an image.ģD printing is not a fast process. Velocity painting works on the principle that the faster the extruder moves, the thinner the extrusion. With velocity painting, you can print patterns and even pictures on the surface of your 3D objects. The virtual print bed allows you to place multiple objects at a time, which you can then print simultaneously. You can even mirror and duplicate the objects. This allows you to rotate and resize the model. When putting models in Repetier Host, they are placed on the virtual print bed. Far more than we can cover here, but we will highlight a few exciting things that this 3D printing software will allow you to do. There are a lot of different things you can do in Repetier Host. Printing: After previewing, you can finally print your project! Printing can be done directly through a wired connection such as a USB, an SD card, or wirelessly through the Repetier Server. Reviewing your slicing can be as detailed as checking every layer, or you can simply check the object by area.Ĥ. Previewing: Once the slicing is done, you can preview your project to check for errors before wasting time and material on printing. However, you can add almost any other slicer that you want.ģ. Repetier Host comes with four default slicers: Slic3r, Slic3r Prusa Edition, CuraEngine, and Skeinforge. Slicing : After placing the model on the virtual bed, it is time to start slicing. From here, you can rotate, size, and even duplicate the object.Ģ. Object Placement: To begin, you will import a 3D model onto the virtual bed. There are four basic steps that a project goes through to be printed in Repetier Host.ġ. Repetier Host is free software that can help you with your professional 3D printing projects. Repetier Host is a 3D printing software made by Repetier and is designed for a more advanced 3D printing audience. The word "port" comes from the French word porte, which means door. The round shape comes from the 15th century, and was originally designed to fit cannons when the cannons weren't needed for warfare, they were pulled back inside the hull and the holes were covered with metal covers that kept water out, but could also remain open in nice weather. An iconic feature in ship design, portholes have been in existence since the earliest maritime days, when ship's crew and passengers could be stuck below deck for weeks at a time in inclement weather and need a source of light. : Marine Porthole 1-48 of 339 results for 'marine porthole' RESULTS Price and other details may vary based on product size and color.
